Practice Areas

Donna J. Dorgan, Esq. is committed to helping clients to solve their problems. Since everyone's situation is unique, the legal services provided will vary from situation to situation.

An individual may need an attorney to prepare legal documents such as a will, a medical directive commonly referred to as a "living will," or a power-of-attorney. In this case, the attorney acts as a scrivner and drafts the documents for the client so that the client's wishes are fulfilled.

Another individual may have had contact with or a negative experience with the criminal justice system. After having been arrested or convicted of an offense, the criminal record may stand in the way of a new job or negatively effect a credit risk profile. An expungement of the criminal record removes the record of the arrest or conviction from the system. With an expungement, a person who is asked if she has been arrested can answer "No!"

Others may be involved in disputes with neighbors or businesses. Often these conflicts can be resolved without going to Court. If necessary, we will go to Court and seek justice for our clients.

Marriages are often in trouble long before one of the partners consults an attorney. The lawyer institutes a divorce proceeding to bring about the legal termination of the marriage. Having worked in the Family Court and been through a divorce, Donna has a special interest in divorce and family law. It is one of the most broad and challenging areas of law. Individual's emotions run high as it involves the custody of the children, the amount of parenting time or visitation, the division and equitable distribution of the marital assets and liabilities, and the continuing payment of support in the form of child support and alimony.

The vast majority of cases are settled by the parties without trial. Donna J. Dorgan, Esq. is a mediator pursuant to New Jersey Court Rule 1:40. When selected as a mediator, Ms. Dorgan will work with the parties to reach a settlement.

It is important for the client discuss the facts, the circumstances, and the client's goals with the attorney. In some situations, we may suggest that you seek assistance from another attorney who specializes in a particular niche or another type of professional such as a certified public accountant or an actuary.

Please call us at (201) 488-2100 or e-mail us at dorganlegal@yahoo.com so that we can set up a time for you to meet with Ms. Dorgan to discuss your situation.
